Switzerland, a land of snow-capped mountains, beautiful lakes, lovely resorts and first class hotels. Set amid breathtaking views stretching from Lake Geneva to Mont Blanc, A perfect summer destination for us, we return the delightful town of Villars. Standing on a wonderful mountain side facing south, above the famous vineyards in the Rhone valley, Villars is situated on a vast sunny plateau at 1300 m. We include a ride on the Chocolate train and visit to Cailler Chocolates.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning shuttle a glass of fizz and snacks set the holiday mood. On through Reims to our overnight hotel on the French/German border where we arrive in time for dinner.

Day 2

Tuesday A buffet breakfast before we set off once again, over the Vosges Mountains to historic Colmar. We enter Switzerland at Basle, then pass the capital city of Bern to reach our holiday resort, Villars, late afternoon. This evening a welcome drink precedes dinner followed by time spent relaxing.

Day 3

Wednesday A free day to enjoy our resort. All guests receive a local Access Card that allows for free use of the local buses, the gondola cable car and other services in and around Villars.

Day 4

Thursday A relaxing circular tour, first over the gentle Col des Mosses, then Chateaux d’Oex final resting place of the actor David Niven and on through beautiful mountain scenery to the fashionable winter and summer resort of Gstaad. Our return is over the glorious Col du Pillion to Diablerets, another delightful resort set at the foot of glaciers.

Day 5

Friday This morning an early breakfast before we drive to Montreux to board our train for the highlight of the stay. The famous Swiss Chocolate Train winds its way from Lake Geneva through majestic mountain countryside to the lovely old town of Gruyere. En-route, we enjoy morning coffee and croissants in the comfort of our seats. We include visits to Gruyere Castle and the town’s world famous Cheese factory during our stay. Later we board a bus for the transfer to Cailler Chocolate in nearby Broc where the makers provide an insight into their work through a factory visit. Unfortunately, at the end, we have to sample some of the finished article! We return to Villars late afternoon.

Day 6

Saturday A full day excursion to Montreux and the Castle of Chinon, on the shores of Lake Geneva after a good stay it will be possible to take the Lake steamer to St Gingolph on the neighbouring French shore.

Day 7

Sunday Reluctantly we leave our Alpine resort and enjoy wonderful views of Lake Geneva then past Bern to the French border at Basle. We spend time in one of the delightful wine villages of the Alsace before returning to our overnight hotel in Forbach.

Day 8

Monday We depart our hotel after another buffet breakfast making for Calais and our mid afternoon train back to England, we arrive in our home area early evening after a most enjoyable Swiss tour.
