Another of our firm favourites, Weymouth. The town’s fine Georgian seafront is an impressive backdrop to the long arc of fine, golden sand, and the views from the bay are spectacular, stretching across the horizon taking in the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. There are beautiful parks and gardens and there is a lot to do and see in particular the traditional old harbour and modern yachting marina are both full of colour and interest.
The 3 star Rex Hotel is situated on the Esplanade, overlooking the stunning golden sands of Weymouth beach and the Jurassic coastline beyond. The hotel was originally built for the Duke of Clarence as his summer residence when King George III held the Royal Court in Weymouth. All of the bedrooms are en-suite and have tea/coffee making facilities. There is a lift that serves all floors.
Thursday From your front door to the waiting club Class coach for the drive south to Weymouth. We arrive at the 3 star Rex Hotel mid-afternoon with time to settle in before a welcoming wine reception and dinner. This evening there will be bingo and festive music.
Friday After breakfast we take a morning drive across the Chesil Causeway to the ‘Isle’ of Portland where we enjoy the superb views and the famous lighthouse. We then drive along ‘West Dorset Heritage Coast’ via Abbotsbury Swannery and Bridport to spend time in the delightful resort of Sidmouth. We return to the hotel for this evening’s Christmas Dinner, equipped with crackers and party hats. A visit from Father Christmas brings dinner to a close and the evening continues with bingo and entertainment.
Saturday A morning visit to ‘Hardy Country and the county town of Dorchester before our return for time at leisure to explore the delights Weymouth has to offer. The evening will commence with a glass of Christmas punch before dinner which is followed by bingo and entertainment.
Sunday After breakfast we spend the day in the seaside resort of Bournemouth. Why not enjoy a spot of retail therapy or take a gentle stroll along the seafront. We return to the hotel for time to relax before dinner which is followed by party night entertainment in the lounge. We see in the ‘New Year’ with a complimentary glass of bubbly and a mince pie before the clock strikes 12.
