Why not step back in time this Christmas to when the Dickens were alive? Join us as we travel to Grassington, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and see the village come alive with Christmas trees and lights as well as shopkeepers and villagers dressed in Dickensian costume. This unique tour also includes a visit to Skipton with its annual Medieval Yuletide Festival and Christmas Market.
The Cedar Court Hotel is a grade 2 listed building boasting a peaceful location with its landscaped grounds, close to the town centre. The hotel is a historic sight dating back to 1671 and was Harrogate’s first hotel. Facilities include a lounge, bar, restaurant and of course its beautiful grounds. All of the 100 bedrooms are ensuite with a TV, telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. A lift serves all floors.
Friday From your front door to the waiting coach then north to spend time in the busy centre of Leeds, visit the famous Kirkgate Market and the elegant arcades of the Victorian Quarter. Mid afternoon we drive the short distance to our hotel with time to settle in well before dinner.
Saturday After a full English breakfast we the scenic road through the grand Yorkshire Dales to Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale then over majestic Hebden Moor to Grassington. The annual festival sees the small village taking on a Victorian appearance with shopkeepers, stall holders and visitors alike dressed in period costume. Listen to the handbell ringers and bands whilst eating chestnuts roasted on a fire nearby, enjoy the entertainment, soak up the atmosphere and browse the colourful Christmas Market stalls. Mid afternoon we return to Harrogate for leisure time.
Sunday A leisurely breakfast before leaving the hotel mid morning and driving to nearby historic Skipton for another seasonal event, the Yuletide Festival. A full range of entertainment ensuring a Christmas atmosphere takes place in the arena on the High Street and at locations around the town, The Christmas Market runs the full length of the High Street alongside many local charity and gift stalls selling everything you could want for your friends and family. At 4pm the day closes with a procession up the High Street to the Holy Trinity Church grounds, where a traditional Christmas carol service takes place. We leave soon after the parade for a mid evening return to our home area.
