Overview

After the success of our previous ‘Winter Fun’ holidays, it gives us pleasure to return to St Wolfgang, probably the best known of all Austrian lakeside resorts, famous for its ‘White Horse Inn’, sheltered by the Schafberg Mountain and located in the heart of the beautiful Salzkammergut Lake District region of Austria. The area offers crystal clear lakes and dramatic mountain scenery and its close proximity to Salzburg combined with our fun packed entertainment programme and genuine Austrian hospitality make the perfect setting for our winter holiday.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Sunday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train a glass of sparkling wine and snacks set the holiday mood. On through France to Germany and our 4 star overnight hotel.

Day 2

Monday A fine buffet breakfast before we continue through Germany. After crossing the Rhine at Karlsruhe we drive along the edge of the Black Forest by autobahn via Stuttgart and Munich to the Austrian border. Passing Salzburg we arrive in St Wolfgang and our hotel late afternoon. A welcome drink precedes dinner this evening.

Day 3

Tuesday After a hearty buffet breakfast we join the coach and head to Bad Ischl to meet our guide. This delightful spa town was once the summer residence of the Emporers of Austria. Our guide shows us the principle sights followed by time at leisure for further exploration. This afternoon we head back to our hotel from where we will take a wonderful horse drawn sleigh ride through the stunning winter landscape complete with warming schnapps. Dinner this evening rounds off the day.

Day 4

Wednesday Departing our hotel after a fine breakfast we make for tiny St Gilgen, also set beside the waters of Wolfgangsee. Here we visit the Dallman café to learn how the famous ‘Mozartkugal’ chocolates are made. Maybe there will be the opportunity to sample as well! After this sweet treat we enjoy time at leisure to explore the pretty village before trying our hand at the popular Austrian sport of curling, for those willing of course. Once again, we return to our hotel with time to relax before dinner.

Day 5

Thursday A day of scenic wonder! We drive to the Dachstein Glacier were we join a ‘panoramic gondola’ and make our way upwards with outstanding views over the Dachstein Massif and surrounding peaks. After a 6 minute gondola journey we arrive at the Dachstein SkyWalk Bridge. This stunning 100- meter bridge affords spectacular views of the mountain landscape. For those with a head for heights at the end of the bridge lies a glass platform – a small transparent observation deck which seems to overhang the abyss between the steep cliffs at the height of 400 metres above sea level! It is the most breath-taking viewing platform in the Alps! After a good stay we return to St Wolfgang and our hotel with time to relax before dinner.

Day 6

Friday A visit to the nearby Baroque city of Salzburg, famed as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This beautiful city with its many famous and historical landmarks is compact, very pedestrian friendly and overlooked by the magnificent Hohensalzburg fortress, easily accessed for rewarding views. Early afternoon we return to St Wolfgang to spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 7

Saturday After breakfast we say farewell to our hosts and begin our homeward journey. Retracing our steps we pass Munich, Stuttgart before crossing the Rhine Karlsruhe to arrive at our German overnight hotel late afternoon.

Day 8

Sunday Travelling through France past Reims then on to Calais for the mid afternoon train to Folkestone, arriving back in our home area early evening.
