Overview

Time appears to have bypassed this historic area, leaving it immersed in rich heritage. We explore the open green land that inspired J.R.R Tolkein’s ‘Middle Earth’. Surrounded by unspoilt countryside we explore the canals and historic buildings that fill the Ribble Valley.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Monday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive north to reach the Foxfields Hotel late afternoon. We have time to settle in before enjoying dinner this evening.

Day 2

Tuesday Our first visit today is to the historic market town of Poulton-le-Fylde, a charming place full of cobbled streets, unusual shops and ancient sights. In springtime the church yard becomes a riot of colours thanks to carpets of purple, yellow and white crocuses. We continue our journey to Lytham St Annes and drive towards Preston to Samlesbury. Here we enjoy an afternoon visit to Samlesbury Hall, steeped in fascinating history, while retaining its original black and white exterior. We make our way back to the hotel late afternoon for dinner.

Day 3

Wednesday This morning we have a drive to Gisburn and Hellifield before travelling on to Lancaster and Morecambe. Here we find the stunning Midland Hotel located on the seafront. After being empty for many years this hotel has now been beautifully restored to its former glory. We include the delightful ‘Midland Afternoon Tea’, a mouth-watering selection of sandwiches, scones and much more, then make our way back to our hotel for dinner.

Day 4

Thursday This morning we visit the Chocolate House near Blackburn, to learn the art of producing handmade delicacies, with refreshments and samples included. From here we head for our lunch stop – the famous ‘Ossie Mills’ complex. Fully refreshed, we have a short drive to Riley Green Marina. Here we join the boat for a relaxing cruise along the canal, with afternoon tea served on board.

Day 5

Friday After breakfast we depart for home, arriving to be greeted by our awaiting taxis mid-afternoon.
