Overview

Anyone travelling in Scotland will pass through Crianlarich sooner rather than later as it lies at the junction of two of the main routes from the lowlands to the North West Highlands. Its position makes it the perfect base for our great tour which includes visits to famous Lochs, a Whisky Distillery visit with tasting, a Highland Train ride and a tour of Ben Cruachen, the Hollow Mountain.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1

Sunday From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Northern England, where we arrive at our overnight hotel with time to settle in before dinner.

Day 2

Monday From our overnight hotel we cross the Scottish border and make a stop in the famous weaving town of Moffat, set in the Lowther Hills. We continue by way of Stirling and the glorious Trossachs to Crianlarich, arriving late afternoon at our hotel.

Day 3

TuesdayWe join the Scotrail train at Crianlarich station for the ride to Oban. The line takes us through the Pass of Brander and alongside Loch Etive. Oban is the major post for the Western Isles ferries and the harbour is a hive of activity. The town has a level seafront backed by a wooded escarpment, with the skyline dominated by McCaigs Folly, resembling the Coliseum in Rome. We have time to explore and have lunch before we catch the return train.

Day 4

Wednesday Today we head along Glen Dochart to Killin, with the Falls of Dochart rushing through the village. From here we drive along Loch Tay to Aberfeldy, where we make a lunch stop. This afternoon we head south along the Sma’ Glen to Crieff, where we visit the Glenturret Distillery, makers of the Famous Grouse, for a tour and a wee dram. Our return takes us along Loch Earn and Glen Ogle to Crianlarich.

Day 5

Thursday After breakfast we discover one of the hidden wonders of the Highlands, a power station buried deep under Ben Cruachan- the Hollow Mountain. At its centre lies a massive cavern, high enough to house the Tower of London. The Hollow Mountain is unique, an underground world on a spectacular scale and a five star attraction that is not to be missed. From here we head north to Fort William, passing through some of the most inhospitable country in Scotland, with spectacular scenery and lonely lochs. We have time to explore this popular town before we make our way south alongside Loch Linnhe to Ballachulish and Loch Leven. The Glencoe Visitor Centre is our afternoon break and here we can learn all about feuding clans and the infamous massacre. We return by way of Rannoch Moor.

Day 6

FridayWe say farewell to our hosts in Crianlarich and travel the ‘Queen of Lochs’, Loch Lomond. Past Dumbarton and Glasgow to reach the borders. We make a stop at Gretna Green then join the motorway back to our home area where we are met by our waiting taxis
