A new Christmas destination for 2017 combines the beautiful Inn Valley in Austria and the charming small village of Igls used in the winter Olympics and overlooking the Inn Valley & Innsbruck. We include a full programme of wintertime excursions and Christmas entertainment.
This charming 3 star plus chalet style hotel is located in the village of Igls, close to Innsbruck, it offers a beautiful lobby with bar and front desk, a spacious restaurant and an à la carte parlour in Tyrolean style and a bar. All rooms have bath/shower, satellite TV, hairdryer, most have balcony or terrace and all are served by lifts. The hotel’s excellent Wellness Centre provides sauna, steam bath, indoor pool and gymnasium.
Thursday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting Club Class coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the mid-morning train a glass of champagne and snacks sets the holiday mood. On through France to our overnight hotel in Saint Avold close to the German border.
Friday Following breakfast we depart France and travel through Germany to Austria. We cross the Rhine at Karlsruhe and pass Stuttgart to Bavaria. Ahead we see the Alps and cross the beautiful Fern Pass with its turquoise lakes to reach our destination of Igls and the Bon Alpina Hotel. Dinner this evening takes the form of a ‘Farmers Buffett’.
Saturday Today is spent at leisure in our resort of Igls. Why not take the cable car ride up the mountain. This afternoon we have arranged a guided walk of the village followed by a welcome drink of mulled wine with time to relax before we enjoy the Igls Christmas Parade performed on the village square beneath the Christmas tree. Featuring some 200 angels, shepherds and animals it is a popular event with many visitors attending the festivities. Dinner at the hotel will bring the evening to a close.
Sunday – Christmas Eve Today we will visit the Tyrolean capital city of Innsbruck and enjoy a guided tour of the city viewing the famous sights such as the 15th Century ‘Golden Roof’, Imperial Palace and Tyrolean Folk Art Museum. Our visit includes a wonderful horse drawn sleigh ride before free time in the city. Tonight following dinner there will be live musical entertainment in the form of Christmas carols and poems. There is Midnight Mass at the local church for those wishing to attend.
Monday – Christmas Day Merry Christmas! Today is spent at leisure in our hotel. Why not take a walk through the delightful village or just relax in our hotel making use of the leisure facilities available. At lunch time a Christmas Turkey lunch will be served complete with crackers and Christmas pud! This afternoon we have further leisure time to enjoy our glorious surroundings before dinner this evening.
Tuesday Today we will visit the newly re-opened Swarovski Crystal Worlds, which was redesigned in honour of the 120th anniversary of Swarovski’s founding in the Tyrol. Among the new attractions are five new Chambers of Wonder, each with a different theme. In the afternoon, we will visit the smallest town in Austria, Rattenberg, where we can wander through the picturesque streets and enjoy browsing for original souvenirs...the Apple Strudel is a must! Back at the hotel we enjoy dinner and musical entertainment bring our final evening to a close.
WednesdayWe bid farewell to Igls and the Bon Alpina Hotel and cross the Fern Pass before retracing the route of our outward journey through Bavaria and the Rhineland to the border with France and our overnight hotel in St Avold.
Thursday After a fine buffet breakfast we depart St Avold and make our way across Calais for the afternoon shuttle to Folkestone. We return to our home area and waiting taxis after a very memorable Christmas holiday.
