A new tour for 2018 is based in the bustling and popular Dutch town of Valkenburg perfect for exploring the Christmas Markets of Valkenburg and its neighbour the German city of Koln. Valkenburg is a small town in the south of Holland close to the German border that offers something different and truly special for Christmas with the largest underground Christmas Market in Europe whilst Koln hosts no less than 4 Markets.
The 3 star Schaepkens is situated a short distance from the town centre. All the comfortable en-suite bedrooms have room safe, cable TV and radio. Public rooms include a restaurant, cosy bar and lounge. A lift serves all floors
Monday Our door to door service takes you to the waiting coach for the drive to Folkestone during which a light breakfast is served. Boarding the morning train a glass of champagne and snacks sets the holiday mood. On through Belgium, past Bruges and Brussels to cross the Dutch border and reach our hotel in Valkenburg. We arrive late afternoon to a welcoming glass of beer, wine or soft drink, with time to settle in before dinner.
Tuesday A day at leisure in Valkenburg with ample time to explore the popular small town and itís truly special Markets. In the Municipal cave of Valkenburg situated at the bottom of the ruined castle sits the largest and oldest underground Christmas Market in Europe. You will be amazed by the beautiful settings and decorations, which are in complete harmony with the countless stalls offering Christmas gifts and other luxuries. The spacious, long drawn-out galleries that characterize this cave invite you to while away the hours against a musical backdrop in a Christmas cave equipped with excellent facilities. Other markets include the smaller Velvet Cave with beautiful decorations, murals and a unique 18th century Chapel. Valkenburg itself also offers a host of cafes, bars and restaurants.
Wednesday This morning we take a short drive over the German border to visit the Christmas Markets in the historic city of Koln situated on the banks of the River Rhine. The colourful markets are found close to the famous cathedral and the old town around the Town Hall, all offering something for everybody. We return to Valkenburg late afternoon. This evening we enjoy the new Christmas Fairy tales Parade with illuminated, magical Christmas floats, and beautifully costumed dancers, passing through the town, the perfect end to our stay in Valkenburg.
Thursday After breakfast we make our way back to the shuttle terminal via Brussels and Bruges for the afternoon train back to Folkestone. Our return to our home area is early evening at the end of a memorable pre- Christmas break.
